Town Team Update #2

As the weeks go by, it becomes more difficult not to think about the approaching June 1st start date and begin to ask questions. The board has received some of these questions, and we hope to clear some things up in this update.

Current Restrictions

As of the time this update is written, these are the current restrictions that are still in place that we must abide by:

City fields off limits (board will communicate when open).

The City fields by the highway are still off limits. However, the school has opened up all outdoor facilities with the exception of the playground equipment behind the school. This means a parent can take their kids to the ball field behind the school to throw or hit the ball around. However, a coach cannot have their players meet there for a practice, even if it’s in small groups.

No practice until June 1st.

The current start date for baseball/softball practices is June 1st as designated by the IHSAA. We are also abiding by this start date.

No players can be meeting or gathering in groups for practices of any kind.

When could we find out more?

We are waiting for an announcement from Governor Reynolds with more direction about the season either this week or the last week of May. We will then communicate with the Central school administrators to determine if we can move forward if we can start on June 1st. The Governor could still decide to cancel the summer sports season.

You may be hearing more from your Town Team Coaches between now and June 1st regarding practice and game schedules.

The board has our fingers crossed for some good news from the governor, but we also understand that her decision will be based on the state as a whole, not just Clayton County. Town Team schedules require teams to play in other counties which could make the decision more difficult.
